Freebie Friday – Online Courses - Homeschool Buyers Club

There is a growing list of websites that offer free online self-directed courses. We have found several that we thought would be useful for homeschooling. Some of those included in today's post are for grammar and high school students and others are for self-motivated students of all ages looking for higher-learning opportunities.

CK-12 – This website provides open-source content and technology to teachers and students in grades K-12. You will find digitized textbooks for math, science, social studies and more infused with videos, simulations and more as well as interactive learning tools such as Adaptive Practice, PLIX (Play, Learn, Interact, Explore), Study Guides, and Simulations. There are teacher and student versions of the site and you can create an account to customize your studies.

CosmoLearning – This non-profit educational website provides visitors with an enormous selection of materials including video presentation, images, courses, documentaries and more for an extensive list of topics.

MITOpenCourseware – Choose from over 2,400 graduate and undergraduate courses from the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) that include course content, notes, assignments, reading information and more.

Open Yale Courses – Dive into courses from Yale University with this selection of course materials including video lectures, suggested readings, problem sets, syllabi and more. You will find select liberal arts courses for social science, humanities, and biological and physical science.

Academic Earth – At this website you will find a selection of free courses available from the world's top universities including Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, Stanford, Yale and more. Plus, browse through the original Academic Earth videos for a variety of topics.

GCF Global – This website offers free courses for not only basic math, language arts, electives and tech skills but also life skills such as money matters, job search and work skills, and GED Prep.
